Laser marking

The Trumpf lasermarking system is equipped with a 1064 nm solid state Nd:YAG laser which is been build in a TruMark Station 1000. The system is capable of handling substrates up to 8 inches in diameter as well as small pieces.
However there is a restricted marking field size of 120x120 mm. So the place of the marking has to be within that field size. The thickness of the substrate can be up to 150 mm.

A mold has been fabricated and mounted on the substrate table to be able to position the standard wafer sizes of 4, 6 and 8 inches in such a way that the marking always will be lasered at the flat for 4 & 6 inch, or at the edge for 8 inch. Other sizes and or shapes can be positioned using the build-in pilot laser.

Whether the material will be marked properly or not depends on the materials itself, the beam parameters (e.g. power, pulse frequency, velocity etc.). The determining factor, however, will be whether the material absorbs enough of the laserbeam. Only then can the energy have the desired effect on the material.

With the 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser this means that practically every material can be engraved like metals, plastics etc., as long as it is not totally transparent for the laser e.g. glass.

The specifications of the system are given in the table below
