SUMMARY of the Beyond project

The project aims to improve the capability of European IT industry in user centered design methods, tools and techniques to the validation of design and development of advanced interactive products and services.

Expected results concern: software principles, methods and guidelines that support a human centered approach for innovative UI solutions and common, human centered, approach in user interface development between professional and consumer domains (international standards like ISO 9241 and ISO/FDIS 13407 for both domains).

The project will fill focus on methods, tools, standardization and guidelines rather than on new UI paradigms. A conceptual framework for constructing and systematically applying distributed engineering support environments within a heterogeneous computer infrastructure is defined. Guidelines on how to integrate methods and tools using the above framework and experiments and try-outs to prove the usability of the framework are executed. This concerns e.g. intelligent and mobile agents, multimedia support in a mobile environment, smart systems, multimedia in home systems and virtual and augmented reality.

The project has finished in 2001.
