Dear Cory,

Unfortunately, it is not possible to export the .raf files to a standard video format with the Animation Editor.

I have made movie clips before using a screen capturing tool. There are many (freeware) programs available online. You do have to make sure that your pc is fast enought to both render the animations and capturing it at the same time without slowing down the playback speed.

Good luck! Curious to hear what come out of your test.

I would like to convert robot animation files (.raf's) that I made with the OPPR robot animation editor to another animation file type (.wmv, .avi, or .mpeg). Ultimately, I would like to convert the .raf's to .wmw/.avi/.mpeg and use them as a part of an experiment in E-Prime 2.0.

Our iCat was recently moved and somehow mixed up its power cable with other ones, could someone please upload or send me a picture of their power cable?
Or is possible just to use any 13.2V power cable without shorting out the iCat?
thanks for your reply.

what about the "select" commmand mentioned in one of the manuals(Iam not sure if user guide or dml api)

It should change the embodiment, but the OPPR console does not understand the parameters(select "philps icat"). But the command is available

Dear Chicco,

Unfortunately, it is not possible to change the embodiment on run-time. However, you can influence the behaviour by which the default embodiment is selected. If you want to select by default the physical iCat and the virtual one only if the physical one is not available, you have to modify the config file AnimationConfig.xm tol:

<Embodiment>Philips iCat,Virtual iCat</Embodiment>

The file is located in OPPR\Believability\Animationmodule

Please let us know if this answered you question.

Kind regards,

Hello,

i have a problem, where can I change the Icat embodiment from the virtual icat to the physical Icat at the runtime? I read that is possible.

My problem ist that, when i connect the Pc with the physical Icat and when i start OPPR, then run first the Virtual Icat. But when i switch Icat off/on then i have the connection to the physical Icat.

We want to process the audio as recorded by the iCat microphones in Matlab. After a difficult process we now have Matlab-OPPR communication up and running. Now it turns out that as soon as the animation module is started Matlab (but also the built in Windows Soundrecorder) can no longer access the soundcard.

We explicitly set the AudioMute to off, but this did not help. Is there a solution or workaround to this problem?

Hi Iolanda,

It would not be a big problem to replace the camera in the iCat with another camera, as long as it fits. But there is an important thing to take into account. The iCats are all calibrated and have specific settings in the firmware that are different per iCat, as each iCat is unique concerning the way the servos are placed. To replace the camera you would have to disconnect the eyebrows and lips from the servos. It is VERY important that when you connect them back to the iCat, they are placed back exactly as they were before. Especially for the lips. If you do not do that, the servos will start to put force on each other, thereby severally shortening their life span. And of course the animations will no longer look the same as before. When this happens we will need to recalibrate the iCat for you, which basically means you will not have the iCat for a week or two depending on the postal service.

The current camera in the iCat has been adopted to make it easy to disconnect it from the base of the iCat. You will most probably not be able to connect using the same cable, so you will have to find a proper way to do that, without limiting the movement of the iCat neck.

Hope this helps in your decision.

Greetings,

We are thinking on replacing the camera inside the iCat so we can have a better quality camera in the robot.
Has anyone done that already? Do you think it's feasible?

I wonder whether it is possible to have multiple DML modules running in a single process. I'm trying to create 2 modules by loading a dll in my application each containing it's own DML module. However I get the second failing each time I try to startup the application.

Hi,

I have a question about speech synthesis with the iCat. To synthesize speech, I now use a the command AnimationModule.Say(sentence) in a lua-script, where 'sentence' stands for the words to synthesize. I use the Dutch Diphone synthesis voice Diana to synthesize the speech.

What I want to do is to make the basic phonemes and duration file (pho-file) with Fluency, edit this with another program (EmoFilt) and synthesize the speech again with Fluency. I know that communication between Fluency and EmoFilt can be done with a simple script or something, but what I like to know is how such a script could be initiated with the AnimationModule.

Could someone help me with this?

Hi,
I have been having some problems with running animations through the console, for some reason whenever I try to run any animations the console just seems to stop. It looks like it is processing but is is not. I can run the sink and source modules fine in the console but for some reason I cannot run animations, not even the ones from the tutorial. I cant tell what is wrong because I dont even get an error message. I am trying to run the animations using the virtual iCat as the university's is away for repair and I do not have time to wait for it's return. I can run the virtual iCat using "start AnimationModule" but I cannot get it to run an animation script.
Please help, I'm desperate!!!
